YouTube is the hub for creators to show their talent to the world. There are millions of people watching videos on YouTube at any given moment. This popularity gives rise to great money earning potential for YouTube video creators. Once your YouTube channel hits 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours in the past year, you can apply for monetization.

However, even after monetization approval, your content needs to provide value to the viewers so that they are interested in watching your videos. One factor that increases the chances of your channel getting discovered and garnering more views is its authenticity. You can achieve that if your channel has a verification badge next to the channel name.

There are two types of verification. One requires you to verify the account so you can avail additional features for your account. The other type gives you a grey verification badge which shows that your brand or channel is authentic and trusted. People usually confuse the two which is why in this article, I am going to describe in detail the process for both the types of verifications. Keep on reading and who knows maybe you too can be earning millions through your YouTube channel!

1.    Get your account verified

Do not confuse this verification with the one you are required to do while setting up your account. That verification is just to make sure that your account is secure and recoverable and it grants your account some additional features. Here’s how you can perform the account verification:

·        Log in

Visit the YouTube website and log in to your YouTube account. Click on the Settings option.

·        Click to view additional features

Once you click on the “Account” tab, you will be presented with several options. You need to click on the “View additional features” option.

·        Click Verify

This will direct you to another screen. Search for the “Verify” button and click on it. After that, choose the country that you reside in. Then, select an option to get the verification code. You can receive the code either through a phone call or a text.

If you choose the call option, you will be asked to type in your phone number. Click Submit when you have provided all the details.

·        Enter verification code

The next step is to enter in the box the 6 digit verification code you have received and click Submit. Once you are done, click “Continue”. This will take you to the status page of your account. You will be able to see the “Verified” message there.

Congratulations! Your account is now verified. This verification comes with its benefits. You can now use these additional features to get the most of your YouTube videos.

Additional features:

  • Longer duration for videos: This feature enables you to upload videos that are longer than 15 minutes so now you can keep your viewers entertained for longer periods.
  • Custom thumbnails: With this option, you can now upload the thumbnail of your choice. All you have to do is upload a custom image and you can use it as a thumbnail for your video.
  • External links: You can now put links to other websites in your videos – an option that was previously not available to YouTube creators.
  • Unlisted and private videos: You now have the option to share your videos with only selected people.

2.    Get the YouTube verification badge

YouTube verification badge allows your channel to be considered authentic. When viewers see that grey badge next to your channel they immediately associate your brand or channel with trust and validity. Follow these steps and get that verification badge.

Requirements for verification

Previously, 1,000 subscribers could suffice for your channel to get verified. However, YouTube has recently updated its policy. Your channel must meet these requirements to get the badge:

  • The number of subscribers should be at least 1,000.
  • The channel should be authentic, meaning that it should not be a dupe and should embody the real creator or brand-name that it claims to have.
  • The channel should have all the complete details like a channel icon, description, content, and set to public. The creator should be posting actively too.

There are some other proven tips you can utilize to achieve the above requirements. Make sure your content is original and appealing to the viewers. Interact with your audience frequently through comments to show them that their opinion is heard and valued. Lastly, make sure that you upload good quality content regularly and work on growing your views on the videos.

Steps to get the verification badge

Once you are confident that you meet the above requirements, you can apply for the YouTube verification badge. Here is how:

1.      Open Google support

Visit the Google support page by copy-pasting this URL in your browser.

Then, find the “Apply for channel verification” section. The section will have a text box with the “Apply now” button. Click on this button to get to the application form.

You should keep in mind that if your channel doesn’t meet all the requirements then the “Apply now” option won’t be available. You will receive a different message in that case.

2.      Fill the application

After you click “Apply now”, all you have to do is fill in the details of the form. It will ask for your channel name and channel ID. You can find your Channel ID by going to the Settings of your account. After that, go to Advanced Settings and your Channel ID will be visible to you.

3.      Hit Submit and Wait…

Once you have filled in the information, click on “Submit”. You will see a notification and will also receive a confirmation email. Now all that is left for you to do is wait. It can sometimes take weeks for the results to arrive so do not lose your cool and wait for that badge.

Stay verified

If you are fortunate enough to get the YouTube verification badge, you must follow these rules to hold on to it.

Terms of service violation

YouTube has some community guidelines in place to keep the platform comfortable for both the viewers and the creators. If you are caught violating any terms of service, then YouTube can take away your verification badge. So beware!

Change in the channel name

YouTube issues the verification badge on the basis of the channel name. As such, if you change your channel’s name after you receive the verification badge, then YouTube will remove the verification badge from your channel. But do not worry. You can apply for the YouTube verification badge again with the new channel name.

Conclusion

Now you are all set to show off that verification badge next to your channel name. This badge will make your channel official, and your brand or channel will become trustworthy in the eyes of your viewers. All you have to do is follow the steps described in this article and you are good to go!
