Saving Streams on Twitch:
In general, a stream disappears after the broadcast is complete.
However, we can save the streams through VODs (Video on Demand). Well, there are two directions for saving a streaming video.
Either you want to save your own stream or a video from some other streamer. How to save streams on twitch? Read on to know more about these.
1. Saving own Streams:
First, let’s see how we can save the streams broadcasted from our channels on twitch. Here, there are two ways of doing it. We can choose to save the streams as videos or as highlights. For the first approach, the steps are as follows:
- It isn’t possible to perform these actions on the app version.
- So, go to the twitch web browser and log in to your channel.
- You can see your profile icon at the top corner towards the right. Click on it to open the drop-down menu.
- Various options are displayed on the screen. Select ‘Creator Dashboard’ from it. The Dashboard window pops up.
- Different options can be seen on the left-side menu. Go to the ‘Channel’ option from the ‘Preferences’ section.
- ‘Store past broadcasts’ is one option you’ll find in the window. You can switch its position and turn it on. The settings will apply from your next stream.
If you are a normal twitch user, your streams are saved for 14 days in general.
In the case of turbo users, partners, or affiliates, the streams will be present for 60 days.
This is one way of saving your own streams.
You can also save the same as highlights.
If you don’t want your videos to get deleted after the given time, you can save them permanently as highlights. Here is how to save streams on twitch as highlights.
Before you begin with this method, ensure that the ‘Store past broadcasts’ option is on.
This process is not possible when that selection is off.
- Go to the twitch browser and log in to your channel with your user credentials.
- Head to the profile icon present in the top-right corner of the window and go to the ‘Channel’ section.
- Once your twitch channel opens, click on the ‘Videos’ option from it.
- You can find this selection towards the top of the window.
- A drop-down menu shows up. From there, select the ‘Past Broadcasts’ option.
- You can see all your past streams in the window. Select any video you wish to highlight.
- Choose the ‘Highlight’ option from there, and your video will now load in the highlights window.
- Follow the prompts and then click on ‘Create Highlight.’ Here, you can change the video’s name and description as well.
- Save the changes after you complete all the selections.

2. Saving others’ streams:
We’ll need a tool like Twitch Leecher to download and save videos from other streamers.
Several other tools are also there, and the choice is yours. Here is a general approach to saving other streamers’ videos.
- Open the video you want to save on any web browser of your choice.
- Copy its URL and head to the app through which you wish to download the video.
- Go to Search – URLs and paste the link you’ve copied previously.
- As the desired video shows up, click on the ‘Download’ option and specify the storage location.
