Step 1: Go to your Instagram story and record a regular video or photo. You can even upload it from your camera reel by swiping up right here, as you can see. But keep in mind that this method requires you to have an internet connection. If you don’t have it, then you can’t add music to your story. 

Step 2: After you record the video, tap on the third icon on the top of your screen. You’ll most likely see a music option when you tap on the icon. But if you don’t see it right away, type in “Music” on the search bar and run a search.

Step 3: Click on the music icon, and it will show you a list of music that is trending at the moment. Similar to other music platforms, you can search for a song using the search bar. You can also swipe across the page to use the browse feature and scroll down to search for a song. Instagram will list the available songs by genre, mood, and theme. 

But Instagram features only a limited number of songs. Thus, you’ll only be able to add from the limited number of listed songs. 

Step 4: Instagram will play the most popular parts of the song by default. To change this, swipe across the options at the bottom of your screen.
