What is Bumping?
Story about “bump mean on Facebook” is just a way to get more people to see your posts. Bumping is an excellent way for businesses to gain publicity and promote their services and products. It is a new tweak in the Facebook algorithm. This algorithm works by surfacing content you missed to the top of your news feed. Story bumping works on the principle that you skipped a post while scrolling. However, if that post continues to get likes and comments, it will resurface in your feed. It will also place this post on top of your feed.
What is EdgeRank?
To understand what bumping is, we need to understand what is EdgeRank. EdgeRank is an algorithm that will decide the hierarchy of the posts in your feed. The posts which will appear first will be the ones that the algorithms think are best catered to your needs. The EdgeRank algorithm ranks each post that appears on your feed. However, there is a downfall to EdgeRank. Supposedly your stories don’t be well; the algorithm will hide them away. It is designed to filter out boring stories. The new tweak to EdgeRank is Story Bumping.
How does Bumping Work?
If your older posts are still receiving engagement as comments and likes, Facebook will bump it up in the user’s feed. It is estimated that bumped posts receive 8% percent more comments and likes. This kind of more engagement is vital, especially if you’re running a business. However, if you want to boost engagement, then you can bump up your posts using the steps listed down below:
Using Facebook App
- The first step is to log in to your Facebook account.
- After logging in, you will need to search up a group’s name into a search bar (You can only bump post on groups).
- You might have to be a member of the particular group, as some groups have restrictions on who can post.
- Scroll down to the post you wish to bump.
- Now, you may comment on the post. People tend to type in “Bump” or something along those lines when bumping posts.
- After typing, press on the arrow to the right of the text field. Doing this will publish your comment.
- The last step is to refresh the page. You might have to exit and re-open the page to allow the changes to happen. After these steps, your post will be on the top.
Using Facebook Website
Not a fan of the app, no worries. We can do story Bumping using the website as well. Just follow the steps below:
- The first step is to go to Facebook.com. Login in to your Facebook account (if you’re not logged in).
- The second step is to type a Facebook Group name into the search bar. The search bar is at the top of the screen. You can only bump posts using Facebook groups.
- Select the group that has the post to be bumped.
- Some groups have posting policies set in place. This means you have to be a member to post in that particular group.
- To bump a post, it has to have a setting in place, which allows commenting.
- The comment you type in doesn’t matter, as long as it obeys Facebook’s policies.
- After typing your comment, press the arrow on the right side of a text box. And you’re done! Now you just need to refresh the page. This will bump the specific post to the top of the screen.
Bump Statistics
According to pre-launch research, the statistics revealed that people read an average of 57% of stories in their Newsfeed. These users didn’t scroll down far enough to view the other 43% of the content on Facebook. After the launch of the Story Bumping launch, it leads to the following statistics:
- A 70% increase in an overall engagement in Newsfeed, being seen, and read.
- A 5% increase in the number of likes, comments, and shares on stories by friends.
- Likes, comments, and shares on stories from pages have an 8% increase.
How to improve engagement
Engagement in your posts and stories is key in promoting businesses on Facebook. Even though EdgeRank is tweaked and improved, it is still essential to do some actions to endorse the business. These include posting on prime hours. These hours are not defined; however, some say it is between 2-4 PM and 11 PM-1 AM, but according to some, it is 5-7 PM. These times are not definite. However, businesses must strive to write compelling, relevant, and engaging content.
Therefore, to make your business successful, you must write charismatic content suited to your specific target audience. Thus, make sure to post stories and posts when your audience is online or reading their Newsfeed.
Tracking your Engagement
Facebook Insights is a feature that lets you know many people have seen your post. Creating a spreadsheet, your posting times, likes, and comments from the audience will help you better understand your audience. This will help you make notes on which time to post and which posts bring the most engagement. Your content and services can be useful only if your targeted audience is seeing it. Tracking will also help in increasing your market as well.
Conclusion
It is always a good idea to actively promote services through Facebook and social media. When it comes to promoting your product in the world, it really is a numbers game. Facebook’s “Bumping” helps businesses and content creators. Thus the more followers you have, the more likes you will receive. More likes will naturally improve your content. Now, get to bump your posts. Get your business out there!
