Facebook is a great social platform for sharing posts. It lets others interact with the posts too, like commenting. Sometimes, though, those may be unwelcome. Unfortunately, Facebook does not currently have a direct option to disable comments completely. But there sure are ways around that problem. In today’s article, we show you those ways.

Desktop
Chrome Extension
In fact, there is a Chrome extension that lets you block comments across popular social networking sites, including Facebook. It’s called the “Shut Up: Comment Blocker.”
You can get the Chrome extension by following the steps below:
Step 1: Open Google Chrome on your computer (since this is a Chrome extension, it would only work with Chrome, unfortunately).
Step 2: Go to settings by selecting the dotted symbol in the top right corner for options. A settings tab would open up.
Step 3: Select “extensions” on the left side of the page near the bottom. The extensions tab will open.
Step 4: Select the “options” symbol on the top left corner of the page. It will be horizontal lines stacked onto each other. When you click it, a side panel should open up.
Step 5: On the very bottom, there will be an “open Chrome web store” option. Select that.
Step 6: You will be lead to the Web store. On the top left, you will see a search bar. Type in “shut up: comment blocker,” and the first result that will come up will be this:

Step 7: When you select it, it will expand the information. Click the bright blue button saying “Add to Chrome” that you see on the far right.

It will ask for confirmation. Confirm, and you’re good to go! You’ve now learned how to turn off comments on Facebook poststhrough an extension, hopefully.
Personal Account:
Follow the steps below for changing your account settings to enable more control over your privacy, limit the people commenting and the content of the comments.
General Privacy Settings:
You can generally keep your posts exclusive to friends or “friends of friends” only by going to your privacy settings and into the option: who can see your posts? And then selecting whichever option suits your privacy needs. There are different kinds of options regarding this. One of them is to change future posts settings; another is to restrict access to past posts.
Both can help you if you are wondering how to turn off comments on a Facebook post.
Post Privacy Settings:
You can change a post’s privacy settings so only you will be able to see it. Consequently, it will also enable only you to comment. Here are the steps:
Step 1: Go to the Facebook app or site and your profile by clicking on your display picture.
Step 2: On the profile page, you should be able to see all your posts as you scroll down. Select the one whose comments you want to delete.
Step 3: Over on the top right corner of the post, you will see the dotted line that indicates the options menu. Click on it, and a drop-down menu should appear, listing the actions you can perform regarding the post. Select “edit audience/privacy” with a people icon. There would be the option of “only me,” with a closed lock as its icon. When you select that, it will change the post’s privacy, so it’s only visible to you. Now, other people won’t be able to comment on it.
If you only want certain people not to be able to see or comment on your post, you could choose the “friends except . . .” option instead. This lets you choose which of your friends should not see the post. You can choose multiple, too, by checking off the ones to whom you want this setting to apply.
Delete Comments:
One way to get rid of existing unwanted comments altogether is to delete them, of course. You can do that by the following steps:
Step 1: Go to the Facebook app or site and to your profile by clicking on your display picture.
Step 2: On the profile page, you should be able to see all your posts as you scroll down. Select the one whose comments you want to delete.
Step 3: Go to comments. On the desktop, the delete option will appear as a dotted line on the right of the comment. In the app, you have to long-press on the comment until it shows the options. There will be “delete” or “hide comment” (among others, if you are using the app). Choose whichever floats your boat.
Public Post Settings:
You can further take action for the long run, which is to change your post settings to “friends” only, which should limit the pesky comments on your posts somewhat. This can be done by going to settings, privacy, and then selecting “friends” or “friends of friends,” depending on whoever you want to be able to see or comment on your posts.
Review Post Comments:
While there isn’t a direct option on how to turn off comments on a Facebook post, there is one to discourage them significantly or review their content before they can go live. This can be done through enabling the Timeline Review option. Here are the steps:
Step 1: Go to Facebook and log into your account.
Step 2: Go to the settings menu.
Step 3: On the left side of the page, there should be the “Timeline Review” option.
Step 4: Within that option, there will be several others. Below the “Hide comments containing certain words,” there will be a bar given for typing in those very words you want to restrict. You can put in the words and phrases that you do not want to see on your posts or the ones most commonly commented on, preventing nearly all the comments from coming.
When this option is enabled, you will have to review comments and approve them before they can go live. To do this, you simply have to head over to the Timeline Review section and select the Add to Timeline box option besides the comments you approve.
Facebook Group:
Fortunately, there is a direct method for turning off comments on a Facebook post,in groups! Just go to settings in the corner of your group page, and in the drop-down menu, click “turn off comments,” and you’re done! You could also make the group private, so only those you let in will have the right to comment.
Facebook Page:
Unfortunately, at the moment, there is no option on how to turn off comments on Facebook posts of a page, even if you are the admin of the page.
So that is it! That was the guide on how to turn off comments on the Facebook post. Hopefully, you will find some of these tips helpful and implement them to have better privacy and control over your Facebook presence!
