How to Copy Paste on Facebook

Facebook not only lets you share your posts, but also other people’s. But sometimes, that option may not be available. That’s where copy paste comes in. This article is a guide on how to copy-pasting on Facebook.

Why Copy Paste:

The “share now” button is much faster and requires lesser hassle than copy-pasting. Then why not just share directly? Here are some reasons to copy-paste:

  • If you share a post of your friend’s, and they have set the post’s privacy to “friends” only, then only their friends, including you, can see it. So, the visibility of your post would only be limited to you and your friend’s mutual friends. And sometimes, you want to share it with a broader audience, so just a “share” would not do in that case. Worse yet, your friend might have disabled the “share” option altogether. So, in that case, a copy-paste is justified, especially if you feel the post’s content is rather important. You can write #copied in the edit, too, if you fancy, to let people know it’s not an original post.
  • Sometimes there are emergencies like someone reporting domestic abuse, as it happens on Facebook. In this case, you want the message to reach out to as many people as possible before the original post is possibly deleted. When that happens, all the shared posts also disappear. So, knowinghow to copy-paste on Facebookmight come in handy.

Beware, though, as this also might act as a breeding ground for scammers and fake news. Think before copy-pasting, and don’t trust other copy-pasted information blindly.

App:

If you’d like to copy-paste something on Facebook while using the application, here’s how to do it.

  1. Log into your Facebook account by entering your email and password.
  2. Go to the post you want to copy. If it is in your news feed, you’ve already ended up there. Long press on the status or comment (whichever text you want to copy). An option to copy will pop up. Press it, and it will have copied the text onto your device’s internal clipboard. When you come upon the place you want to paste the text copied, simply long-press on the field for the text, and the option to paste should pop up. Press it, and your text has been copied!
  3. If there is a specific place you want it copied to, like your Facebook status, you will repeat the same process of copy-pasting. If you are on the Facebook home page, which would be your news feed if you are logged in, there will be a text field towards the top of the page, saying: what’s on your mind? That is your status bar where you enter your status, text, or media, on how you are feeling or what is up with your day. If you would like to paste your copied text there, simply tap on that text field and the option to paste should pop up. Select it, and the text will be copied. Select “post,” and your status will be posted on your Timeline. It would also appear in your friend’s news feeds and everyone else’s who follow you or your friends.

That’s how to copy-paste on the Facebook app. It’s pretty simple, as hopefully, you found it so, too.

If the post you want to copy isn’t on your new feed, like on a friend’s older post or on a group or page, you can go there instead. You can do this by tapping the search bar at the top of the page. When you tap it, enter the text for where you want it to lead up to. A friend’s name, and it will come up in the suggestions at the top. Select it, and it will lead you to their profile. You can scroll down until you find the desired post or a specific comment on a post. Then repeat the copy-pasting process as mentioned above.

That should do the job. And now that you have copied it, you can paste anywhere you want to, like other platforms or in documents offline.

  1. If you would like to paste it on your Facebook status, for example, which is a text field below “Stories” at the top of your page, which says: what’s on your mind?

You can do that by clicking on it and right-clicking for the paste option to appear in the menu. Or, you could press Ctrl and V keys on your keyboard, and your text would be instantly pasted, just make sure that’s what you copied last (as computers tend to have a very short term memory when it comes to copy-pasting). When the text has been pasted in the status text field, you can go ahead and press “post” at the bottom of the box. It will load for a bit and your text would be posted!
